Pedro Zamora came to the United States in 1980 in the Mariel boat lift. He was a very influential HIV/AIDS activist and educator, appearing on numerous television programs, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," before he appeared on MTV's "The Real World: San Francisco." After his death, the mayor of his adopted hometown, Miami, dedicated a day in his honor and a street was also renamed Pedro Zamora Way.
Zamora ied from an AIDS-related brain infection one day after the last San Francisco "Real World" episode aired.
