How can Tallahassee continue to foster our growing art community?
Tallahassee is lucky to have many talented artists in our community who enrich our lives with their inspiring work. We can foster our growing arts and culture community by working together to create collaborative projects which draw on a variety of talented people. We can support the arts through participation in events, sponsorships, memberships and political support for public art projects. Making connections and stretching resources through collaborations can give more artists the opportunities to grow their careers and to enrich our community.
Why have you been so involved in the arts community?
I feel that art and culture contribute tremendously to the quality of life in our community. It takes involved people to support the arts and make a vibrant arts community.
Name someone who has truly inspired you?
Eleanor Roosevelt – She spent her lifetime working to make life better for others.
How does one judge art for competitions?
I am sure that each judge will approach the judging in their own way, but for me, I will be looking for originality, quality of work, use of materials and whether the piece evokes emotion in the viewer.
Name one person living or dead that you would love to speak with for 10 minutes?
My father. He was a quiet, creative person who lived through the Great Depression, served in WWII, and taught Economics to thousands at FSU. I wish I had more time to ask more about his life.
